Saving Sentry @Liza0Connor

Saving Sentry

By
Liza O’Connor
Book 4 of the
Requires Rescue Series
Contemporary Suspense
Sometimes even the strong
requires a helping hand.
The largest, strongest dog in the pack was miserable. He was born to be a leader, yet he wasn’t. He was born to be special, yet he wasn’t. He was called “Grumpy” by the humans. And while he was grumpy and sad, he had every right to be. This was not the life he was meant to have!
When Sean, Molly, and Eliza returned to their home, the mass of twenty-five giant Shiloh Shepherds frightened Eliza. She wanted her puppies!  Still, she could see the great sadness in the massive dog’s eyes as he crawled submissively into her room. Her father explained that Grumpy expected to be pack leader, but none of the dogs will accept him.
She objected to his name at once, and once Sean discovered how smart and gentle the dog was with Molly, he suggested they rename him Sentry. When Eliza learned a sentry watches and protects, she agreed with the name change. Sean explained to Sentry that he was to protect Eliza at all times. The change in Sentry was remarkable. He now had the most important job in the world: protecting Eliza.

EXCERPT
“Wow!” Eliza exclaimed. “That’s a beautiful castle.”
Before Molly could correct her, a herd of dogs rushed out of the kennel and entered their fenced in lawn.

“They sure do have a lot of big dogs,” Eliza said.
“Are they mean?”

Sean couldn’t believe how large they’d gotten. “They aren’t supposed to be, but let’s be cautious all the same.”

Eliza pulled her knees against her chest. “I don’t want to see the castle. Let’s go home now.”
Sean ignored her and drove in front of the house and parked.

“You do have a garage now,” Molly reminded him.

“I do?” he asked and smiled. “Where?”

She pointed to the building next to the kennel.

“No, Daddy, I don’t like the dogs. Let’s go home,” Eliza cried.

Sean turned to face her. “Baby, these are your puppies.”

With face puckered, she shook her head adamantly.
“No!”

Sean turned to Molly for help.

“Stay here,” she suggested.

Cat Refuge by Liza O'Connor

Post for Gail Koger Nov 12th

A Warning from someone who knows...
“We all like to believe we are masters of our fate. However, usually it isn’t true. Somewhere, a person exists, sometimes completely unknown to you, whose slightest action impacts your life.”

Blurb

Jason Connors, the head of the FBI, becomes involved in a simple immigration case in which a doctor from Africa has married an American woman so he can enter the United States. Some claim the doctor is not human, but rather a cat-like alien species that can mimic the human form. Determined to discover what is really going on, he sends his brightest agent, Carmella Ginkabo to Africa, to uncover the facts. Courageously, she travels deep into the jungle to learn the truth from the first of this species who originally landed on Earth two hundred years prior. Her discovery alters the future of Earth forever.
EXCERPT
By the smiling glint in the man’s eyes, she worried he could read her thoughts. Embarrassed, she looked away, and stared at Schuler instead.
“What happened?” she asked her tracker.
“You don’t remember? Those damn Marobis ambushed us with over a hundred warriors. My men took one look at them and ran. The Marobis knocked me out cold, and when I woke, you were gone. I spent the next twenty-four hours tracking you down. When I found you, you were all alone, lying on the jungle floor, naked and bleeding from a snake bite.”
“I was lying on the ground?”
“Yeah.”
“I wasn’t staked to the ground?”
Schuler looked at the doctor and frowned. “No. There weren’t no stakes. There weren’t no Marobis either. I figure you had somehow escaped them and was making your way back when you got bit by the viper.”
Catina shook her head. She intended to disagree, but then looked at the two men studying her. What was she going to say? That she had a romantic moment with a panther?
Schuler gripped her hand, evidently sensing her confusion. “It could’ve been the snake bite. When I found you, you were delirious from the poison. You wouldn’t have survived if Dr. Tiburon hadn’t been visiting the village. He gave you the first dose of antiserum there and then radioed the chopper that brought you here.”
She looked at the doctor. “You were in the village?”
He smiled. His teeth were brilliantly white and canine sharp. She had known many tribes who filed their teeth to sharp points, but she had never met a medical doctor who practiced that particular tribal custom. Now her memories made sense. If she had first met him while under the haze of delirium, given her love of the big cats and her obvious attraction to the doctor, it wouldn’t be odd that she might have, in her mind, transformed him into a panther making love to her.

Ancient Love @Liza0Connor

A Dark Suspenseful Ghost Thriller
With a Romantic Ending

Soon Rainier discovered his unwanted wife to be intelligent, helpful, and much stronger than her tall, thin frame would suggest. He regretted having ever called her hideous because he now thought her the most beautiful he had ever seen.

Alise, likewise, had softened her view of Rainier. He was not arrogant, as she first assumed. In fact, he was kind, generous to his people, and had no trouble helping out when an extra hand was needed. He was, in fact, the finest Duke she had ever known.

That was not what King Edward had intended to happen! He had wanted the two to fight like cats and dogs, so when Rainier finally killed the shrew, Edward could have him hung and take his land.

Since his first plan wasn’t going to work, he concocted various schemes to get rid of Rainier, but they never worked. Upon seeing Alise in an enchanting red gown, he decided to make her his mistress. Only the female would not cooperate, resulting in her death the night before her 39th birthday.  Rainer attacked within hours, but Edward’s soldier lay in waiting and Rainier died…or should have done so. Instead, he became a ghost who tormented Edward through the remainder of his life.

The bond between Alise and Rainer refuses to break. He lives as a ghost waiting for her return. She lives one miserable human life after another. Her only chance for happiness is when she nears the ghost of Rainier. Only then will she remember her true love and experience true joy.

However, she always dies the night before her 39th birthday in a brutal fashion and there is nothing that Rainier can do to stop it!

BLURB
Alice has no idea that a deadly danger follows her through every life she lives. All she knows is for the first time in this life, she is happy and with purpose in a quaint museum located in an ancient castle. Only Rainier, a ghost from the past, knows the complete truth, and a curse prevents him from warning her of the dangers that will end her life, as it has ended all her lives before. But this time, a man of his bloodline has entered the battle, so Rainier is not alone in his fight to keep Alice alive and well from the demon of their past.

An intriguing tale that pits everlasting love against a deadly curse that has followed the heroine through all her lives. A ghost from her past and a good man in her current life risk everything to keep her alive.

EXCERPT
She only wanted to see if the wheel still had that flawless spin to it. With a surreptitious glance about the room, Alice moved closer to the wheel but stopped due to a guard staring directly at her with a scowl as if he thought her trouble.
Maybe later, if he stepped away, she’d give it a try.
Further down was a citrine. She didn’t have to wonder if the citrine’s handle still worked, since the most gorgeous, virile man she had ever laid eyes on was testing it out for himself. She looked over at the guard to see if he noticed, but he was watching the door, completely unaware of what was occurring on the right side of the courtyard/ballroom.
The man’s arms rippled with muscles through the coarse linen shirt. The front of his shirt was opened halfway down his chest, and his bronze skin glistened beneath. His pants were skin tight ending below his knees, where off-white stockings took over. Her eyes moved upward. Either he’d stuffed his codpiece or God had generously endowed him. She suspected the latter.
He looked up and stared straight into her eyes. She blushed and turned away, embarrassed he had caught her admiring his magnificent physique. If she were just the least bit attractive, he probably wouldn’t mind the attention, but she wasn’t pretty, and a man like him would only be appalled by her appreciation.
She hurried to the next exhibit, hoping to escape her embarrassment. Yet as she stared at the anvil and farm tools, all she could think of was the glorious man. She would have dared another look except she could feel his eyes burning into her back; touching the very core of her soul even now.
She continued around the room, only daring another look at him when the burning touch of his stare ceased. He had returned to working the cistern. God, he was so beautiful! If only she could capture that magnificence on paper.
She sat down on a bench across the room from him and took out her drawing pad. She sketched with rapid strokes, hoping to finish before he noticed.
She was almost finished when she felt a chill, as if the sun had gone behind a cloud. She looked up and realized the glorious man was gone. Her heart felt as if it might break.

A Despicable Crime, The Adventures of Xavier & Vic, by Liza O'Connor

By Liza O’Connor

Troubles & Crimes to be solved
Xavier’s dead great-grandmother wants Vic to solve a crime
A Despicable Crime
(The Attempted Abduction of Xavier’s Mother)
A Painful Conclusion
The Improvement of Crime Lords
A Gift Returned

BLURB
Family contacts that Xavier Thorn has long ago hidden from his life suddenly return.  His beloved great-grandmother, which his father had declared dead when Xavier was six, turns out to be alive and annoyed that his father is stealing money from her bank account and the bank won’t stop him.

As matters escalate from theft to murder to a most despicable crime, Xavier learns more about his father who has hated him all his life and discovers some good news. However, first, he must secure his great-grandmother and his mother, since the connection between the two ladies and Xavier has become known to several Crime Lords. As the man responsible for keeping all Crime Lords in line, the two ladies are now in danger of becoming hostages.

It’s a hard month for Vic. Due to saying too much while teaching the Scotland Yard officers on how to stop forgeries, Vic believes she has lost Xavier’s love. Also, her crazy sister Claire burns down the house Claire lives in simply because it cannot be put into her name. Then she arrives at Xavier and Vic’s house with the intention of killing them all.
Family can be so difficult!

Excerpt
Xavier sat and listened to the old woman, seated on the other side of his desk, drone on and on. Honestly, he had no idea why she was here. Worse yet, she seemed to be telling her story backwards, or at least he suspected as much. Every time he took the effort to listen, she was talking about something that happened further in the past.

If she had been a man, he would have tossed her out long before now, but she was almost the spitting image of his great grandmother whom he had truly loved. Now that he gave the matter more thought, his great-grandmother often told him stories in reverse, insisting a person could learn more by going back.

“We all know where we are, but the past we know is often nothing but nonsense.” She would then give him a hard glare. “I expect better of you, young man. You are like me. We remember the truth, not some made up magpie, pretending to be a sparrow.”

Yes, this woman sounded a great deal like his dead great-grandmother. She also made statements that truly made no sense.

Liza O’Connor was raised badly by feral cats, left the South/Midwest and wandered off to find nicer people on the east coast. There she worked for the meanest man on Wall Street, while her psychotic husband tried to kill her three times. (So much for finding nicer people.) Then one day she declared enough, got a better job, divorced her husband, and fell in love with her new life where people behaved nicely. But all those bad behaviors has given her lots of fodder for her humorous books. Please buy these books, because otherwise, she’ll become grumpy and write troubled novels instead. They will likely traumatize you.
You have been warned.

Rana: Teenage Queen by Liza O'Connor

Some Interesting Facts about the Planet Hope
The Planet Hope is smaller than Earth, but nearly twice as old.  They have some birds, squirrels, and chipmunks, but nothing dangerous until the humans arrived two hundred years ago. Now, the human farms have huge bulls, horses, cows, pigs, goats, lambs and chickens. Except for the lambs which are gentle and soft to touch, the fairies stay far away from these new creatures.

The fairies have control over time, so asking how long they have lived here will only baffle you, since they can, if they wish, pop back to the beginning of time and marvel at the planet’s creation, then return to the present for a cup of tea.

Fairies are mostly responsible, kind, and thoughtful humanoids. However, once in a while, one will go bad, and the good fairies will cast the creature out. It’s possible that has caused resentment by those cast out, making them doubly mean and vengeful. For whatever reason, there are some really mean fairies and humans causing trouble on Hope now.

The bad fairies might even be casting spells on the good fairies because the good fairies rarely have children anymore. A fairy can live hundreds of years, but, on average, they are only having one child. Realizing this could end their race, when the ship of humans arrived two hundred years ago with their strange four legged creatures, the fairies did not send them away. Instead they sent out their tallest females, with their wings safely tucked away, to see if they could mate with giant humanoids, and it turned out they could and better yet, healthy children, somewhat taller came from the mating and they tended to have fairy power. Thus, taller female fairies, who could pass for a short human were strategically placed in the various holds that the humans built.

Rana’s mother was sent to seduce the King of Stronghold, and she quickly did. However, when Rana was born, the king was so horrified at his daughter’s tiny size, he decided he would get his sons from a larger woman.  While he loved her mother and Rana, he refused to give her more children, leaving Rana an only child.

We never know if the King had other children. One claimed he was the son of the King, but the King never acknowledged him, so when the King and Queen died on one horrible day, 16 year old Rana became queen of two Kingdoms.

BLURB

Rana is only sixteen when she becomes queen. Her first challenge is to quell an internal coup while a massive army storms the gates of her castle. Her enemies believe her to be a child, but she has powers they’ve never suspected. She also has great dreams for her people, and she will do whatever is necessary to make them happen, even marrying a prince she does not want.

EXCERPT
Rana still remembered the shock that filled her when her mother confessed she wasn’t human, that Rana was only half-human, but to her eye, not even that. Her mother’s words horrified her at first, but then she realized she wasn’t a sorry excuse of a human, but a different entity. That made her special!

Her mother’s race had been on this planet since the beginning of time, or so their legends claim…Rana had rolled her eyes when her mother first said it.

However, the more she learned about their ability to manipulate time, the more probable and also less meaningful that statement became. It turned out she could go back to the ‘beginning of time’ herself, so the fact that some of her people wish to hang out and watch life evolve into its earliest forms didn’t really surprise her. In fact, it sounded like a nice way to spend a week or two.

A Ghost Walker's Love Story by Liza O'Connor

A Ghost Walker’s
Love Story
First, allow me share what a Ghost Walker is.
Ghost walkers are a much higher skilled level than the normal people who experience out of body experiences. They can will molecules into what appears to be a clothed, or naked human body, depending on what they wish to do. Most can lift small objects, such as a cell phone and use it as well as any normal human. The strongest ghost walkers can even port heavy items over long distances by their ability to absorb massive amounts of molecules and lock them into place for long durations.

If a ghost walker wishes to focus intense strength on another person’s body, she or he can cause bones to shatter.

If a ghost walker wants to make love to a normal human, she or he will pull more molecules so the body both looks and feels like a human body down to creating nerve-endings, so they can feel. However, retaining such a form for long isn’t easy. Thus, the typical ghost walkers tend towards ‘quickies’. Some are known to be amazingly accurate in the detail, but often larger, when it comes to certain body parts.

Ghost walkers are NOT ghosts. They are living, breathing humans who can leave their bodies.
However, there is risk in doing so. If a neighbor happened to come upon the body of a ghost walker, they might believe they are dead and call an ambulance. This would NOT be good. It is, in fact, the biggest fear that a ghost walker has.

BLURB
Alice is a ghost walker: an ordinary person capable of separating her soul from her body. Unlike her fellow ghost walkers, she uses her ability trying to help protect the world from terrorists and madmen. Finding an FBI agent that she trusts, she supplies the information needed to stop several atrocities from occurring.
She believes she is safe from discovery. However, agent Jack Callaghan finds her with clever sleuthing and romances her with pure intent. Unfortunately, their unexpected union brings wrath down upon them from all sides. Her fellow ghost walkers believe she has betrayed their code of secrecy; the director and fellow agents question Jack’s commitment to the agency, and want Alice brought in so they can discover how she disappears at will. In this maelstrom of betrayals, Alice uncovers the truth about the three men who claim to love her and discovers which one holds true.
Warning: Alice is so dedicated to stopping terrorists that she will let nothing get in her way, not even when she discovers her body is being used against her will. Since she's not in her body when this happens, saving lives remains far more important!https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif

EXCERPT
Blowing up Yankee Stadium
Mohammed Hussain was greatly disturbed as he descended the Yankee’s stadium steps and spied a pretty blonde woman next to his seat. He had a fondness for American blondes.
When he sat down, she smiled at him. Not a sexual smile, but a smile of friendship, letting him know that she did not mind sitting next to a Muslim after 9/11. He did not return her smile. It angered him that she must die. Had he only met this woman a year before, he might not be sitting here today, wrapped in explosives. However, he had not met anyone so gentle and accepting. Instead, the racial prejudice and mistrust he received turned him against Americans and eventually led him to volunteer to be a martyr for his people.
His hand clasped the ripcord that would detonate the plastic explosives embedded in the prostheses potbelly he wore. Security had patted him down, but only briskly on the sides. No one would even think about prodding into a man’s fat belly. The only way they could have known he carried explosives was if they noticed the cord that poked from the skin near his hip bone, but that was safely hidden beneath his stretch pants.
His attention returned to the woman. She held out her popcorn to share. He shook his head and admired her sky-blue eyes. Perhaps he could wait until she stepped away to the restroom. Then, if Allah allowed, she might be spared. No specific time had been set for him to strike against the infidels. He saw no reason to do it during the anthem. The strike would be just as powerful later in the game. Nothing could stop the inevitable now. If someone approached, he would pull the cord, but unless that happened, he would wait and see if the girl would leave.
As the starting time neared, the stadium filled to capacity.
Yes…many will die today, and fear will strike at the heart of America once again. No longer will they feel safe: not at their work, not at their play.
